I have a background as a civil engineer and have wondered since my commitment to flag and flagpole manufacturing two questions: What height is the tallest flagpole anywhere on the planet? read full article.
Most people are aware that flagpoles over 200 feet in height require additional support to meet safety and code requirements. Flagpoles measuring up to 80ft are often made from aluminum. Flag towers may be built from time to time because flagpoles that are very tall can withstand higher winds loads.
North Koreans constructed the tower in the Korean Demilitarized zone. This flagpole (so-called), stood 525 feet tall, and carried a 300 kilo North Korean flag.
The North Koreans noticed the South Korean flagpole had a shorter length than they expected. During the so-called Flagpole War, the flagpole grew another 330 feet and the 300 lb flag gained by the North Koreans. The North Koreans were able to repel the South Koreans by building their current flag tower, 525 feet high.
The flag will become saturated with water and should be removed as soon it starts to rain. Higher stress levels can be caused by a heavier flag on a tower or flagpole.
Surprisingly, though, most people do not believe that the flag pole in the United States is the highest. The flagpole at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, is the highest.
Turkmenistan’s flagpole stands at 434+ ft high. It is also higher than the Aqaba flagpole, located in Jordan, at 434+ ft. Due to its height and geographical location, it can be easily seen even from dozens of kilometers away.
